The Giving with Grace Spay and Neuter Clinic

Lake Norman Humane is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of its highly anticipated in-house spay & neuter clinic, the Giving with Grace Spay and Neuter Clinic. Located at 2106 Charlotte Hwy, Mooresville, the clinic will provide low-cost spay and neuter surgeries along with affordable vaccinations, ensuring more accessible healthcare options for the pets in our community.

With the primary focus on reducing the number of pets that are euthanized, abandoned, or surrendered, the clinic will offer affordable spay and neuter options to the public and local rescue groups. Evening vaccination clinics will also be available, making it easier for pet owners to keep their pets healthy. In its first year, the clinic is conservatively expected to offer a minimum of 2,800 spay and neuter to the public, significantly decreasing wait times for these essential procedures and helping to lower the birth rates of unwanted kittens and puppies.

Dana Kelley, Director of Operations, emphasizes the urgency of this initiative: “Unfortunately there are just not enough homes to adopt all the kittens and puppies that are born each year. North Carolina ranks 3rd in the country for euthanizing shelter pets. In 2023, over 39,423 homeless dogs, cats, kittens and puppies were euthanized in North Carolina. It’s just heartbreaking.”

In addition to offering surgeries to the public, Lake Norman Humane expects to see substantial savings in their own veterinary care with an estimated $150,000 per year in reduced costs. These savings will allow them to help more pets in need in our community. Under the direction of Michael Heinen, DVM, the Giving with Grace Spay and Neuter Clinic will provide excellent care for our pet clients as staff will be trained in low cost spay and neuter techniques.

While Lake Norman Humane has successfully raised 65% of its funding goal, an additional $350,000 is still needed. These funds will be used for building renovations, equipment purchases, staff training and initial medical supplies and expenses. “We are thrilled by the support we have received from the community”, states Maria Haughton Roberson, Treasurer and Campaign Chair. “We need to raise the remaining funds to ensure the clinic starts off being financially sound.”
